Reporting to the CEO, the Controller will manage a mid-size team of accounting professionals. You will be responsible for overseeing all accounting and reporting and must possess the ability to manage audits. In order to qualify for the position, candidates must have industry experience in real estate investment/development.

The Controller will be responsible for the following duties, inclusive of the following.

  • Oversee all accounting and reporting
  • Monthly update to a financial model (budgeting/forecasting)
  • Prepare and manage financial reporting needs for all partners
  • Preparation of a monthly finance report
  • Prepare materials for board reports
  • Approves and reconciles payroll reports to GL
  • Plan and manage annual audit and internal audit processes
  • Prepare annual audited financial statements and notes under IFRS
  • Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts and annual budgets
  • Oversee and monitor day-to-day accounting operations, process month and end year process.
  • Responsible for setting up and managing vendor accounts
  • Manage the timely preparation and filing of tax returns
  • Manage monthly reporting for HST, QST
  • Participates in special projects as assigned

In order to qualify you must possess the following skill set:

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or CA)
  • Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience
  • Proven passion for the real estate & development industry and minimum 2+ years recent experience in a similar level of role
  • Heavy involvement in acquisition and investment activities
  • Ability to coordinate with project management, sales and executives on deliverables and proven experience being the point of contact with financial institutions and external auditors  
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to lead presentations/meetings with confidence while backing up assumptions 
  • Experience with inter-company reconciliations and consolidations 
  • Have a strong core accounting foundation and be able to review the work of more junior team members in an accurate and efficient way
