ROLE OBJECTIVE:

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Project Accountant will be responsible in supporting the full cycle accounting, project billing and budgeting, and verifying chargeable equipment and labour for Real Estate development projects.

You will be responsible for the following duties inclusive but not limited to the following:

  • Produce accurate and timely financial statements and management reports for multiple entities
  • Complete project draws
  • Preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist in the preparation of customer invoice package containing draft and final invoices for general construction projects
  • Assist with the review of gross margin results for construction jobs and communicate findings to stakeholders
  • Ensure timely invoicing and collection of inter-company expense allocations and other billings
  • Create construction customer budgets
  • Effectively communicate with Project Managers regarding contract documents, change orders and other modifications
  • Reconcile bank accounts; manage accounts payable and receivable
  • Complete monthly/quarterly HST returns
  • Documentation and monitoring of internal controls
  • Contribute to ad-hoc projects, as assigned

In order to qualify for the position, the candidates must possess the following skill set:

  • In pursuit and near completion of professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • 1-5 years accounting and budgeting experience within Real Estate industry (Residential Development preferred)
  • Working knowledge of GAAP principles
  • Intermediate to advance computer literacy (preferably accounting software, QuickBooks)
  • Proven experience working in a project driven environment (construction, engineering, architecture)
  • Capability to thrive in a dynamic, hard-working and detailed oriented team environment meeting reporting deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and relationship building skills
